LightXNear  The Fox's Blessing

This is a LightXNear fanfic.... I do not own the characters in this story except for Kitra. Do not use this story without my permission please. It is yaoi so don't read it if you don't like it.


A young boy with surprisingly white hair and deep black eyes was walking down the street. He was on a tough case at the moment and he'd needed some fresh air. Little did he know what was in store for him on this day.

As young Near walked along he heard a gentle, almost pitiful yipping sound. He looked around and saw a young fox underneath a bush. He blinked and bent down towards it. "Hey, are you ok little fox?" he asked gently.

The fox looked up at him then and smiled softly, literally smiled. She stood up gently then. "Yes.. just a little hungry and wanting to meet you Near." She said in the sweetest voice. "My name is Kitra."

Near was completely surprised by this. He shook his head a bit but looked around. He saw a couple food stands and thought about it. "Do you like apples?" He asked calmly. Kitra nodded then. Near shrugged before walking over to the stand and buying an apple for the little fox.

He gave her the apple and she beamed. "Thank you so much!" She ate the apple quickly then before literally pouncing on him and pushing her paw on his chest. "I'm going to reward you for your kindness Near." She'd put her nose really close before all of a sudden dropping a bit so that she was laying down belly up in his lap.

She cooed almost seductively. "I can see deep into your heart.. your deepest secrets are no secret to me... your deepest, darkest desire... I shall fulfill it... it may not be what you expect, or what you think it is but.. it shall be fulfilled.. and you shall know it when it happens." Before he could say anything she hopped off and smiled mischievously.

"Listen to your instincts... they'll guide you in the right direction.. Goodbye Near... I do hope we meet again."

Before anything could be said or proven that she had even existed she was gone. Near blinked and shook his head before standing up again and starting to go home.. he was sure that he must have gotten heat stroke or something.

Kitra ran and ran, a smirk on her face as she headed to her next destination. Her plan was in motion. She stopped when she heard the voice of her target and smirked again.

"You know that I can't talk to you out in the open like this."

"Yeah but.. I'm huuuungry! I'm dieing from lack of apples here!"

Kitra then launched out in time to get kicked gently by her target who stopped in surprise. "Hey.. you alright? What did you do that for you little thing?" A young brunette knelt down then and gently stroked the fox.

"Wow Light.. I didn't know you could be so caring."

"Well, it's just a fox.. it hasn't done anything to harm anyone."

Kitra smiled gently up at him then. "I knew you were kind Light. I just knew it." She then struggled up and cuddled close into his chest, listening to his beating heart. Light looked down at the fox surprised.

"You talk?"

"Why yes silly.. you don't hear purrs do you? My name's Kitra by the way."

Ryuk narrowed his eyes a bit before shrugging. He was sure that he'd heard the name before but it wasn't any of his concern. Light blinked. "Alright... what do you want then?"

Kitra purred. "Oh, nothing too bad... just to give you your deepest, darkest desire. I can see it easily you know.. no one's heart is hidden from me... " She cuddled close for a moment before gently pushing her paw against his chest, against his heart, and the same spot she had for Near.

She jumped away then, smirking softly. "You won't recognize it at first... but you will have your deepest desire.... listen to your instincts... they'll lead you in the right direction. "

Before either of them could do anything she was off again, gone in an instant. Light shook his head a bit. "Crazy fox." He then stood up and went along on his way.

Kitra chuckled softly to herself, her true form revealed and she was now invisible to the world. She was still a fox but she was much bigger and she had beautiful black wings that contrasted her fur perfectly.

Kitra was actually a shinigami herself, but she was different. She was one of the only ones that looked completely like an animal and she didn't need to kill people to survive. Unlike the rest, she just needed to, in a way, perform miracles and the like on people to survive. That wasn't the only reason that she performed them though. No, she loved her job.. especially when it came out like this. She couldn't wait to watch her masterpiece in motion.

Both Light and Near went home, pushing their encounter with the young fox to the back of their minds. They'd soon realize how wrong that was to do though.

Near woke up in his large bedroom the next morning, stretching like he always did to wake up. Something felt different though.... really different. He blinked softly, looking around gently. His eyes narrowed a bit in confusion though.. for some reason the room seemed.... bigger. He yawned then and heard a gentle thump behind him.

He turned around then and his eyes widened as he jumped up. "no... that can't be right." He said to himself as he quickly looked himself over.... it was right though... somehow... he'd been turned into a cat, his fur just as beautifully white as his hair had been. It was quite unnerving. He remembered the fox then and cursed softly. He knew that she had something to do with this.

He then felt this incredible urge to jump out his window then and decided he might as well.. the fox did tell him to follow his instincts after all. Little did he know he wasn't the only one.

"Hey.. Hey Light... uhm.. wake up." Light grumbled at this.

"What is it Ryuk? You've never woken me up before so this better be important." Ryuk chuckled softly.

"You might want to calm down." Light glared at him then, realizing he seemed almost bigger than usual. He heard a gentle thumping noise and blinked. He looked towards the sound and saw a striped tail flicking angrily.  

Light jumped up then and looked himself over. "What happened!!" He growled angrily... literally growled. He was a dark coloured Tabby cat now, a mixture of brown black and white fur.

Ryuk chuckled. "This seems to be part of the way to get your 'deepest, darkest desire' that that fox was talking about yesterday... in fact.. the name Kitra did seem familiar and now I know why."

Light glared at him, telling him to spill. "Well. Kitra is a shinigami.. but she isn't like other Shinigami. She lives off of creating miracles.. and it seems that you're her latest target."

Light snarled a bit then before his ears twitched and he had a sudden urge to go outside. Ryuk saw this and chuckled. "Listen to your instincts Light.. that's the only way to get back to normal... that's how Kitra works." Light huffed softly before jumping out the window of his room and outside.

Near looked around then, curious as to where his instincts would take him. All of a sudden a little girl walked up and pet him on the head. "Hi Kitty!!" She said in a high pitched voice before running off again. Near blinked.. slightly scared by what had just happened and he made a mental note to try and stay away from little girls that were way too excitable.

He continued on his way then, meeting a lot of other people along the way. It was then that he saw something that made his head tilt gently. A beautiful male tabby cat with something floating behind it. Wait... did I just think beautiful??? Near thought with a bit of a scared look on his face.

The tabby cat saw him then and walked up gently. "Hello." He meowed. Near blinked before nodding.

"Hi." He meowed back. "If you don't mind my asking.. what is that floating behind you?"

The tabby cat looked shocked before looking up at the floating thing. "Sorry.. didn't I mention that animals could see me too?" The thing answered. The tabby cat shook it's head annoyed then before turning back to Near.

"It's a shinigami or death god. His name is Ryuk." Near blinked before nodding then.

"I see. Well.. my name's Near.. nice to meet you." He said, listening to his instincts without a second thought by now.

The tabby cat blinked before smiling. "I'm Light." He replied. Near was sure he'd heard that name before but decided not to worry about it. "You wanna play?" He asked softly. Light blinked before smiling softly.

"Sure." They ran off then to go into the park and just play for a bit, not caring in the slightest how they played or what they did... they just knew that for once in a very long time.. they were having fun. They didn't even notice as the sun set. They went on like this for at least a week, only stopping their play to sleep and eat. They kept getting closer to each other.

Near was the first to notice that something was a bit different then the usual people that they'd played with. He had a strange feeling when he was with this tabby cat. He thought about it deep and hard before it finally could be only one thing. "I'm in love." He whispered softly to himself. He looked at the tabby then who didn't seem to have heard him. "My deepest darkest desire.... love."

Light turned to Near then and saw that he was a bit quieter than normal. He walked over and sat down beside him, having come to the same conclusion that he had only moments afterwards. "Hey, you ok?" He asked softly

Near turned to him and nodded. "Y-Yeah.. I'm ok."

"You sure? You look a bit brighter than normal."

"Do I?"

"Yeah.... you do."

Near took a deep breath then. "Well... I.. I'm going to say this now before I lose my nerve.... Light.. I.. I love you." Light blinked before blushing a bit and smiling

"I love you too Near.." He then leaned gently in and licked Near on the lips, a kitty version of a kiss.

Near blushed a bit before smiling back. All of a sudden there was a loud popping noise and the two cats were now two humans.  Near was slightly embarrassed about what they did and admitted and he was suddenly feeling shy now. Light didn't seem as embarrassed though. He leaned over and gently gave Near a kiss. "Now that's a proper kiss." He said softly.

Near felt his heart skip a beat but couldn't help but agree. Light carefully pressed his lips to Near's again, deepening it this time.. still used to following his instincts after doing nothing else for a week. Near shivered, gently kissing him back. Light felt this and smirked softly, running his tongue gently along Near's lips before pulling away again. Near found himself whining in annoyance.

Light smirked gently again before running his tongue along Near's lips again, this time keeping it their as Near gently opened his mouth for Light. Light's tongue sneaked it's way inside, exploring Near's mouth gingerly. Near shivered before moaning softly.

Light touched his tongue to Near's then, gently rubbing against it. Near moaned softly before deciding there was no way that he was being submissive without a fight. He moved his tongue against Light's then and they began to gently fight each other for domination.

After a few minutes of this Light had had enough and gently pushed them back a bit, distracting Near enough to gain dominance. Near gave up on being dominant then and just relaxed, letting Light take over. Light pulled away then and smiled. "You know... you're really cute when you blush like that." He whispered softly. Near chuckled softly then, smiling up at him.

They both sat up gently when something occurred to Near then. "Kira." He whispered softly. Light's eyes widened in surprise before he quickly controlled himself.

"What do you mean? Isn't Kira that killer?" Near nodded then.

"I know it's you Light... Kira talked of shinigamis... and you have Ryuk with you." Light blinked at this, wondering how Near would know of this. "I'm N... L's replacement." He said simply. Light's eyes widened again.

"Hey.. Light.. You know who it is now.. you gonna kill him?" Ryuk asked. Light turned to him before turning back to Near and then back to Ryuk.

"No... I'm not going to kill him Ryuk... I love him... that's still true..... that damn Kitra has really worked her magic." Near blinked before chuckling.

"You met Kitra too? That must be it. How we found each other."  Near then cuddled up close to Light, sitting gently in his lap. Light smiled, gently hugging Near and putting his chin on Near's shoulder.

"We'll have to thank that fox if we see her again huh?"

Near nodded. "Most definitely." Light and Near stayed that way for a couple hours before Near gently stood up and led Light to where he was living.

Light looked around. "Nice place."  

"Thanks." They talked for a bit and came to an agreement then. Near would convince the others that Kira was dead and Light would be able to use his death note on those that were to be sentenced to death or on certain other occasions that they deemed worthy so that it was a happy medium between the two.

They lived their life like this... but every year on the same day that they met, they would go back to Kitra and request to be transformed back into cats for the day so that they could frolic carefree with each other once more.. and on those days.. no one ever could find them unless they knew the secret of their love.
